Master Sathyanarayana Keyboard
Embar Kannan Violin
Poongulam Subramaniam Mridangam
Master Sathyanarayana (13 years old) is a child prodigy who has
impressed Chennai music audiences immensely. At this tender age,
he has already performed in all the major sabhas including the
Music Academy. The following is a review from The Hindu. Please
do not miss this concert.
The Hindu Review:
Path-breaking progress in sound technology and sophisticated
equipment have made it possible for artistes to play Carnatic
musicon the keyboard, gamakas intact. K. Sathyanarayana, all of
12 years, presented a keyboard concert with a sizeable and
encouraging audience in attendance.
His slight form half-hidden by the bulky instrument, he proved
his musical precocity in ``Bagayanayya" (Chandrajyothi) and in
the raga sketch preceding it, the notes of this vivadi raga
pulsating with energy.
A foot-tapping ``Raghuvamsasudha" in Kadanakuthuhalam followed,
its melodic structure tailor-made for the keyboard. A sincere
effort was directed towards bringing out the flavour of Saveri.
``Ayye metha kadinam" is not an easy ragamalika to handle as the
gamaka execution demands considerable gnanam and fidelity to
grammar. Sathyanarayana passed the test with flying colours,
with well-rounded gamakas augmenting the old-world melody.
Lalgudi G. Jayaraman's austerely moving tillana in Revathi was
rendered without missing a beat.

Mrs. Seetha Rajan Vocal
V. Lakshminarayanan Violin
Ram Sriram Mridangam
Seetha Rajan is a senior disciple of Sangeetha Kalanidhi
Semmangudi Sri Srinivasa Iyer. The following is excerpts from a
review in The Hindu about her performance and talents.
A few years ago, The Music Academy awarded the Sangitakala
Acharya title to recognize her contribution as a teacher. Mrs.
Seetha Rajan is, quite simply, one of the best Carnatic
vocalists of our time. Her authentic patanthara, unswerving
classicism and uncompromising industry, infuse her manodharma
with freshness. Without changing a single swara in a Dikshitar
kriti, she can still make it her own. Her kind of music draws
tears, not applause.
Mrs. Seetha Rajan is also proficient in Hindustani music, having
taken lessons from the formidable Bhimshankar Rao at the
Government Music College. She followed her guru Semmangudi’s
advise, “…. teach, pass on your heritage." Seetha has done this
through research, participation in seminars and conducting
workshops.
