Aadithya – the budding genius
|
Of all the numerous splendorous facets, it is the expressive
ways of the dance forms that most truly reflect India’s hoary
tradition. Indian culture is diverse and so are the content and
style of Indian classical dances.
A continual and unabated interest for the Indian Classical
dances through the ages has immensely helped to evolve new
structures and thus even the dances outside the traditional
milieu do not deviate from the time-honored tradition.
Ancient themes are re-presented in a new format using updated
technique and innovative themes are infused into the old style
of performing. This approach has endowed a whole lot of new
definition to the beauty, grace and poise of the Indian
Classical Dance.
Fusion of an Indian classical dance form with modern day sport
can be lot more exciting than merely adding a few exotic
dimensions. This was amply borne out by the exhilarating show of
Bharathanatyam on Skates by Aadithya Prem, freshman from Gwinnet
School of Maths Science and Technology.
Skating with remarkable precision and dancing with bewitching
elegance, Aadithya creates the marvelous visual impact to keep
his audience stupefied. His wizardry underlines the fact he has
in him all requisite make up to become a performer par
excellence.
Aadithya was initiated into Roller Skating at the tender age of
four, under the watchful eyes of Mr Saji an Indian International
Skater and coach. Sensing his natural flair to excel in skating,
Mr Saji guided him to the more aesthetic forms of Artistic
Skating.
The success was instant and this spurred Aadithya to forge ahead
and win the first of his eight State Championship Gold. Aadithya
decided to concentrate more on artistic skating to become a
noticeable performer in the National Roller Skating
Championships and towards this end, he was guided by Mr N
Sulaiman, another noted Indian International Skater. After the
Kolkata Nationals, Aadithya decided to move to advanced Artistic
Skating/ Indian Classical Dance on Skates, which is the most
glamorous and yet the toughest event in the Nationals.
Aadithya received his Bharathnatyam lessons from Smt T.B. Chitra,
a versatile dancer graduated from Kalakshetra Chennai, the
distinguished school of Bharathanatyam started by Smt Rukmini
Arundale.
He also received technical guidance to excel in artistic skating
from Mr Pavan Kumar Akula, a nationally ranked coach from Andra
Pradesh. He continued to hone his skills with the help of his
coach N Sulaiman.
Steadfastly devoted to Bharathanatyam, Aadithya won the
district, regional and state medals in his debut performance in
the CBSE State Youth Festival in 2007-08. He won the gold in
Artistic Skating / Indian Classical Dance on skates on his first
appearance in the event - apart from winning a record 8th
consecutive gold in Artistic Free Style. In February 2008,
Aadithya won the National Gold in Artistic Skating/ Indian
Classical Dance on Skates, again participating in that event for
the first time.
He moved to US after winning the Nationals in 2008, and became
busy soon thereafter. He did his first performance in US at the
annual festival of Hindu Temple at Kentucky. Following this, he
performed on various stages including the prestigious World Fest
of Louisville in Kentucky, Festival of Lights in Atlanta,
Cultures Across the Border in Atlanta etc. He won the Kentucky
State PTA Reflections award of excellence in dance choreography
in 2009 and again won the Georgia State PTA Reflections Dance
Choreography award 2010.
Some of the awards he won in India are ‘Kid of the Year 2005’,
Individual Speed Skating Championship in State Championship in
State CBSE School Meet, Gold Medal in State CBSE School Youth
Festival for Folk Dance, Gold Medal in Martial Arts in the State
Martial Arts Festival 2007-08. Lest one forgets, he is also the
regional winner of McMillan Scholarship for excellence in
Science.
Aadithya is also into modeling and TV anchoring. He is the brand
ambassador for Triphala Brahmi – an Ayurveda product. He has
done modeling for Dhatri WinSmart, Malayala Manorama Scholorship
programs, Vanitha and Net Point computers. He was the anchor for
the popular Kids program ‘Butterflies’ in Kairali People TV and
Dance related program ‘Dance Dance’ in Jeevan TV.
Currently, Aadithya is studying in the 9th grade in the Gwinnett
School of Maths Science and Technology. He is assisting Smt
Mehak of Mehak Dance Academy in Bharathnatyam and Bollywood
dancing. He is also associated with Smt Kumudh Sawla of Nrithya
Natya Kala Bharathi Atlanta.
