10/29/2006	Mahadev Desai	General	Subject:English subtiles on Hindi movie DVD English subtiles on Hindi movie DVD While watching DVD of Hindi movie “Munnabhai Lage Raho”, I noticed several mis-spelt words. My understanding of Hindi is average, so I could follow the fast paced hindi Mumbaiya dialogues between Mummabhai and Circuit, but I was disappointed with the English sub-titles. I was thinking of viewers like my 11 year old granddaughter or other non-Hindi conversant viewers who would fail to get the full flavor of the movie. These ‘Lost in translation” victims would be put off by such errors. Does no one bother to check the subtitles before DVD goes on the market! Does your readers have come across such spelling and translation horrors! Mahadev Desai

7/19/2006	P Naik	Others	Subject:Desi Customer Service Attitudes I'd like to see our local Indian media do a section on the state of customer service in Indian restaurants. It's quite appalling that the vast majority of waiters are so somber, cheerless and solemn, as if we're all in a funeral home! We, perhaps are the only ethnic group where cheerful service is quite unheard of. Could the business owners use a nice training session in good customer service?
7/7/2006	Mahadev Desai	HomePage	Subject:Daal prices This afternoon, my wife went to one of the grocery Stores in Atlanta and she also found that daal and other pulses are fast flying off the shelves. I read about this in papers too. It is monsoon time in India, so people consume more pulses than fresh vegetables. This shortage is seasonal and hence the rise in prices not only of daal but also moong beans and other pulses. Last year some States like Rajasthan had low rains and that too has affected supply of moong beans etc. If you remember some time back there was a shortage of onions and tomatoes! This year I understand India is importing wheat as well! News of shortage and price hike induces panic and Storewallahs take advantage of that. My wife was told that supllies will be replenished soon-lets hope so! So what is the solution-If not daal, drink soup

After inquiries, the owners told me that there is a shortage due to export from India. The distributors have increased the prices for all retail outlets. WHAT IS YOUR EXPERIENCE, ATLANTA???
