The first planning meeting with the leaders of the Indian
community organizations on Saturday, January 26th,(India's
Republic Day) at IACA was a great success. Representatives of
IACA, TAMA, GATS, Bengali Pujari, BAGA, ISHA, ASHA, GIACC, TIE,
GAMA, UISA, Hyderabadi Association, Gandhi Foundation USA and
other individual supporters decided to work together towards the
construction of India Center at the current facility(10.4 acres
land) owned by IACA. The Project is expected to cost around
$2,000,000 and support facilities for - cultural programs,
fitness programs, health clinics/seminars, youth programs,
dance/music/language classes, programs for children/senior
citizens and community events (visit a similar facility at
www.indiacc.org ) . The current IACA auditorium accommodates
around 300 people. The new facility is expected to facilitate
activities for 600+ people. The growing India community in
Atlanta needs a second home for the young generation to learn
about India’s culture and heritage.
The India Center committee under the leadership of Mr. Vir
Nanda(404-312-8544) and Dr. Paddy sharma(404-642-9064) is
working to raise $250,000 in donations as a first step to kick
off the project. The committee, so far has received pledges
worth $95,000. You can make tax-deductible financial
contributions, payable to "IACA-India Center", ranging from $100
to $50,000.
You may also help the project as a volunteer in the areas of
- Fund raising, financial planning, construction planning,
activities, youth programs, children activities, website/email
management, Marketing/PR and Community liaison.
- Please send your names and areas of your interest. Feel free
to share this information with your friends and contacts. We are
planning to create a volunteer/donor database of 1000 people for
this noble cause.
Let us Join hands and create a facility we can be proud of and
use it for the benefit of whole Indian-American community in
Georgia.

The India American Cultural
Association (IACA), an umbrella organization serving
the Indian community in Atlanta for over 37 years,
along with other Indian Community organizations
celebrated the India’s Republic Day on Saturday,
January 26th. Mr. Sam Olens, the Chairman of Atlanta
Regional Commission, was the Chief Guest. Mr. Olens
and Mr. Tushar Sanghvi, Chairman of IACA, hoisted
the American and Indian flags respectively. Mr.
Olens wants to increase the interaction between IACA
and the local Governmental agencies. Mr. Surinder
Bahl, President of IACA welcomed the attendees and
encouraged them to utilize the recently renovated
facility for public and private programs. The
children from Telugu Association of Metro Atlanta
(TAMA) presented patriotic songs and dances, which
received thunderous applause from the audience.
