Asha-Atlanta to host Rabindra Sangeet concert |

ATLANTA, Dec. 20 – The first fundraising event of 2005 to benefit Asha for
Education- an action group for basic education in India, will be held on
January 15th at the Georgia Tech Student Center. Mrs Sanghamitra Chakrabarti,
foremost student of acclaimed singer Rageshwar Bhattacharya, will enthral
Atlantans with the songs of India’s legendary poet and Nobel Laureate -
Rabindranath Tagore.
The concert will begin at 6:45pm and last for over 2 hours. The event is
open to the public and all proceeds will benefit literacy related projects
for the underprivileged in India. Chakrabarti will be accompanied by Amitava
Sen on Violin, Tirthankar Dasgupta on Tabla and Shah Alam Khokan on
Keyboard. Tickets are $10.00.
“We are very excited to have Mrs. Chakrabarti in Atlanta," said Sathyan
Subbiah, Asha-Atlanta volunteer who is coordinating the concert. “The
support from the community for Asha's grassroots development work in India,
has been great, and it is wonderful to be able to reach out to various
communities in Atlanta through such fundraisers”

Asha is a non-profit organization, with more than 51 chapters in the US, and
works closely with NGOs and other support groups in India to catalyze
socioeconomic change primarily through the medium of education. The
organization is committed to empowering underprivileged women and children
in India by enabling them to access education, health care, social justice,
and equal opportunity in their daily lives. All contributions to Asha are
tax-deductible. All donations are sent to project partners in India.
