and they were conquered
- was the overwhelming feeling of all those who watched the
beauty pageant to crown Ms Teen India Georgia and Ms India
Georgia 2008 held at Gwinnet Performing Art Center.
The show attracted a
huge crowd of over 550 people. Ms. Anita Gupta, Pageant Director
of this year, deserves to be specially congratulated for
organizing this perfectly managed show.
The show opened with an
engrossing dance performance by all the contestants – a piece
choreographed by Sonia Seernani. The stage was set on fire for
those few minutes with the twenty one young and ravishingly
beautiful girls displaying their skills. The two emcees, the
dashing Sandy Verma and the vivacious Sonia Seernani held the
audience with their lively interaction providing all the time an
indication of things to follow. A very balanced and eminent
panel of judges was present to assess the participants and
declare the winners. The evening gown parade had most young
hearts skipping a few beats. The talent shows were worth the
time and money the audience had spent coming all the way to
witness the contest. Sandy accompanied by gorgeous Anita Gupta
as a fellow emcee in the second half definitely got the crowd
involved with the Q&A session.
The cat-walk on the
ramp choreographed by Anita Gupta was done with such style and
grace that it left us all wondering whether the contestants
really ranged from 13-16 for Teens and 17-21 for Miss
Competition. The dance performances were truly an optic feast.
The Indian walk with the girls dressed in sarees and
lehngas regaled the audience and left the parents stunned
with disbelief. "Is this my baby doll walking on the ramp and oh
no….who is that handsome hunk escorting her on the stage?" – was
what they exclaimed seeing the four handsome men escorting all
the girls in Indian Walk.
Avanti Patel a
sophomore at Alpharetta High School was crowned Ms Teen India
Georgia. Avanti the picture perfect princess with her dazzling
smile and perfect posture will surely be a formidable challenge
to the contestants of Ms Teen India USA. She stole everyone’s
heart with her well-articulated answer and alluring voice in the
Q&A round. The equally enchanting Sonali Shah was declared the
first runner-up for this category and Rucha Shrotriya, who
captured the hearts of all present with her singing performance,
was the second runner-up.
The multi-faceted
Shivani Gandhi, a two times boogi woogie chalo America runner-up
and a rising freshman at GSU was crowned Ms India Georgia 2008.
Her amazing versatility also earned her the 'Best Talent' and
'Most Photogenic' titles. Sonya Thapar and Tina Thapar (you
guessed wrong, they are not siblings) were crowned the first and
second runners-up in Ms India Georgia category. The winners will
now go forward to participate in the nationwide contest. Cheers
to these gals! Indian community from Georgia is extending
support and good wishes for you all. We are convinced you have
it in you to make Georgia proud in national competitions.
One unique thing this
year was that the contestants were extraordinarily talented and
highly competitive. Although there is no denying that there is
always scope for improvements, the high quality of the overall
production this year was clearly indicative of all the hard work
the pageant director and her team had put in.
IACA President Surinder
Bahl thanked the contestants, parents, coordinators and the
emcees for their efforts in putting together a spirited
performance. "It is great to be Indian-American, but do not lose
your Indian heritage," was his exhortation to all the young,
second generation Indian-Americans.
