FOI Torch
By Syam Yellamraju
The Festival of India Torch wended its way through the Roswell
area on the morning of Saturday, July 26, 2008.
The FOI Torch was ceremonially lit, amidst much rejoicing and
fanfare, at the glamorous IACA's Beauty Pageant on July 19,
2008. One witnessed similar scenes of all round gaiety as FOI
Torch passed through Atlanta. The torch was received by a
jubilant crowd at the Riverside Park, Roswell.
Good and sunny weather enabled the presence of a larger turnout
of supporters than envisaged. It was very heartwarming to see
the kids and senior citizens jostling in the crowd to get hold
of the flag and the torch.
The entire gathering excitedly carried the torch around the park
and waived the Indian Flag with patriotic fervor. The pavilion
was decorated with the Indian Tricolors and other fliers and
festoons depicting theme India. Melodious patriotic Indian music
filled the air and the yummy Indian snacks added to the
all-pervasive India flavor.
Everyone gathered around the pavilion spiritedly sang several
patriotic songs including Saare Jahan se Accha. The president of
IACA Mr.Surinder Bahl delivered a stirring speech to inspire the
younger generation and to instill in them love for their great
motherland. He exhorted all those present to come and be part of
the Festival of India celebrations on August 16th, 2008.
The program was hosted by the coordinators, Samir Doshi and
Sreedevi Dasdithota and presided over by the FOI Torch
coordinator, Padma Rallapalli. The event ended with the singing
of the Indian and American national anthems.
The Torch will travel to East Cobb Park in Marietta on Sunday,
August 3rd at 9.00 AM and thereafter to Duluth on August 9 at
9am.
