Hindi Sansthan to launch
Summer Hindi Camp in Atlanta

Yuva Hindi Sansthan(YHS), a non-profit group working towards
preserving and propagating the heritage language Hindi in USA
and around the world, will hold its first mega event – two-week
long Hindi language learning and cultural camp for middle school
students in Atlanta, GA from June 19 to 28, 2010.
The ten-day summer camp, christened as Startalk Summer program,
is scheduled to be held at Berkmar High School, 405 Pleasant
Hill Road, Lilburn, GA 30047, during which one hundred students
of the age group of 11 to 14 will be enrolled to completely
involve in a unique learning and cultural experience.
Announcing the launch of the event, Dr. Surendra Gambhir,
Chairman of YHS and Director of the Atlanta project, told a
gathering of prominent members of the Indian American community
that the event is aimed at providing opportunities to middle
school students to learn and gain proficiency in Hindi in a
manner befitting the richness of the language.
“In addition to employing the best instructional practices, we
will engage them in language learning through media of theater,
games, folk dances and Bollywood music”, he said.
“We have the support of five institutions dedicated to education
and research – Center for Applied Linguistics in Washington DC,
South Asia Center at the University of Pennsylvania, American
Institute of Indian Studies, Flagship Hindi Program of the
University of Texas at Austin and Emory University in Atlanta”,

A former professor of Hindi at University of Pennsylvania, Dr.
Gambhir, who is an also a renowned linguist, said that Yuva
Hindi Sansthan (YHS) was formed to promote the heritage language
among youngsters through culture-based education. “We will
organize youth-centered cultural, educational, academic and
community-oriented events during the camp”, he announced.
Manju Tiwari, Assistant Director of the language and cultural
camp appealed to the Indian American community of Greater
Atlanta to encourage their kids to enroll in
the program that would improve their understanding and knowledge
of their heritage.
“Starting with Georgia, our goal is to campaign for introducing
Hindi in the public school curriculum all over USA”, claimed
Tiwari adding that the Indian American community must work in
unison to inspire and encourage the younger generation to learn
and use our heritage culture, especially when the US government
had publicly announced its intention to include Hindi in the
school curriculum.
Echoing the sentiments of Tiwari, Ashok Ojha, president of YHS
underscored the importance of learning a heritage language in
USA. “Hindi is one of the most widely spoken languages of the
world that has been recognized by the US government as a
strategic language. It is our duty to work for motivating people
for learning Hindi irrespective of which language we speak at
home”, he commented.
Community leader and CEO of American Management Services, Shiv
Aggarwal extended his full support to the cause of spreading
Hindi. “We must come together to enrich our traditions by
motivating the next generation to learn and practice their
language. It is high time that we support such ventures”, he
said.
A number of prominent community leaders including Subhash Razdan,
president, Asian-American Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Radhey Shyam
Dwivedi, president, International Center for Cultural Studies
attended the event.
The occasion was very well-attended by the prominent media
personalities and community leaders of Atlanta. Dolly Chatterjee,
secretary of YHS introduced the guests and proposed a vote of
thanks as well. The meeting took place at the Impact Center,
Global Mall in Atlanta.
