Dhoop- Chaoon
program
A
Runaway Success
By Shilpa Aggarwal |

The 1st May 2010 stage-play put up by Hindi Drama
group Dhoop- Chaoon was a runaway success.
Unorthodox thinking, irrepressible energy and
indefatigable hard work are the reasons behind the
success of Dhoop-Chaaon, the non-profit organization
ably led by actor- director-writer Sandhya Bhagat and
supported by a team of dedicated like-minded volunteers
more then 70 in number and of differnt age group between
5 to 75.
At Emory University White Hall, the audience witnessed a
very fine drama performance in Hindi punctuated with wit
and humor. It was a curious blend of time-honored
beliefs and traditions of India with contemporary social
issues. The artists included volunteers from all walks
and spheres of local Indian-Pakistani community. The
special contribution from young school-going kids was
indeed noteworthy.
The event was attended by more than 300 people. Even the
present generation, which has diverse interests and
constantly weaning away from their traditional roots,
came in reasonable numbers to this event. The organizers
can feel legitimately proud of this achievement.
With passage of time, Dhoop Chaoon is steadily growing
into a formidable local outfit. The emcees Aslam Parvez
and Manju Tiwari expatiated at length on the
developmental activities of Dhoop Chaaon which owes its
success largely to the untiring efforts and vision of
Sandhya Bhagat and her team determined to preserve and
perpetuate the cultural values through literature,
theatre and music.
The variety show started with "Vikram Vetaal" a drama
based on the famous folktale "Raja ke teen kaan"
enriched with mellifluous music making it a veritable
audio-visual feast.
"PhoolKumari Hans Padee" a play for children by the
students of `Natkhat Rangshaala` was peppered with lots
of fun elements. This endeavor of encouraging young buds
to perform on stage is a praiseworthy attempt of
Dhoop-Chaoon. The kids delivered dialogues confidently
showing their zeal to learn their mother tongue. With
this play Dhoop- Chaoon team lived up to its promise of
entertaining audiences belonging to all age groups.
The third presentation was video Clips of Web Serial
"Door ke Dhol". launching on atlantadunia website soon
As Bollywood dance and song sequences have become an
inescapable part of any Indian entertainment menu, no
show is deemed complete without them. The ample talent
of Dhoop-Chaoon team became evident with the dance
performance on song Chakkar Ghoomio
"Zameen ke oopar waale" a theatrical presentation of a
real incident, had quite a terrific impact on the psyche
of people as ordinarily they are not exposed to thought
processes that are extraneous to their routine mental
make up.
"Harrappa House" evoked peals of laughter as they
effectively recaptured the ethnic ambience with exact
screen-play. It kindled the feeling of belonging to a
place with a hoary past that had produced eminent
personages like Kabirdas, Tulsidas, Saleem, Anarkali and
PrithviRaj Chauhan. Adopted play written by famous Hindi
Writer K.pSaxena.
With "Sureeli Behenein", the next presentation,
Dhoop-Chaoon brought home the fact that some stories are
evergreen and can make the audiences laugh anytime. A
mother's concern about three unmarried daughters leads
to an abortive attempt to trick an eligible bachelor
only to subsequently discover that she herself was being
tricked.
The final presentation was a dance performance "Sasural
Genda phool" and "Ude Jab- Jab zulfein teri" that
displayed the development of love in different stages as
it buds, grows and matures through teens, youth and old
age.
