Tumultuous welcome to THE BLUE MUG at
Atlanta
Story & photo by: Girish Modi
The highly publicized and much acclaimed Hindi/English bilingual
play “The Blue Mug” finally reached the Rialto Center in Atlanta
on the evening of March 14th after meandering its way with many
stopovers in major cities of USA. Needless to say, the event was
a total sell-out - firstly because it was promoted by Atlanta’s
well-known entertainer and social worker Mustafa Ajmeri and
secondly because it was for the noble cause of supporting
Operation ASHA raise funds to combat tuberculosis in rural
India.
The evening started with refreshment of delicious samosa and
kachori. On stage .Paddy Sharma, MC of the show, introduced Dr
Shelly Batra President of Operation Asha who had come along with
Mr.Sandeep Ahuja from India to specifically attend this event. .Dr.Shelly
Batra enlightened the audience about Operation Asha
As we know, The Blue Mug is based on a novel entitled “Man who
mistook his wife for a hat” by Dr. Oliver Sacks. The adaptation
was adroitly crafted into a theatrical performance featuring
popular Bollywood stars.

The Blue Mug is directed by Atul Kumar and Shruti Tiwari of
Mediasphere is the national promoter. In this play, four actors
-- Rajat Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Munish Bhardwaj and Sheeba
Chaddha – ably reconstructed themselves relying on their memory
of what they witnessed. The play dramatically recaptured the
glory of India, its history and its people, its moments of joys
and hours of turmoil.
The play also depicted a story of a patient – played by Ranvir
Shorey – who travels to Mumbai with his family and then is
struck by amnesia. He is now 40 years old, but tends to remember
all happenings only up to his 20th birthday. The doctor – played
by famous Bollywood actress Konkana Sen Sharma – assiduously
attempts to study the intricacies of the patient’s memory loss.
Together they evaluate this sufferer’s journey from war-ridden
Kashmir to Punjab to Mumbai. The entire narration is presented
in a very comical and yet poignant manner.
‘The Blue Mug’ is indeed a huge success principally due to the
diligent hard work and extraordinary capability of Mr.Ajmeri to
pull together a host of sponsors - United Lex, Dr. Paddy Sharma
