Taal School of Dance celebrated its first Annual Dance Recital
on Sunday the May 16th 2010 at North Gwinnett High School before
a buoyant audience.
The accomplished dancer Divya Srivastava, Founder and Director
of ‘Taal’ choreographed and directed the show and steered the
audience through the successive scintillating performances
ranging from the technical Kathak ‘Nritta’ to the traditional
dances ‘Nritya’ to the chartbuster Bollywood hits.
There was added spice to the program with the interspersion of
melodious songs by worthy singers like Pankaj Bhargava,
popularly known as Kishore Kumar of Atlanta and Vandana
Upadhyaya, a Visharad Degree holder from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya.
The program was expertly emceed by Navin Tyagi, stage artist &
founder of Shaam E Sargam Group of Music and the gorgeous Anita
Gupta, singer, ex-model and a realtor by profession.
The program opened with the invocative dance on a ‘Shiv Bhajan’
by senior students of the school. Among the various performances
‘Masakali’ by youngest group of girls rocked the auditorium and
‘Pe pe from chance pe dance’ earned a thunderous applause.
Technical todas and tihai followed by old classic ‘Madhuban me
Radhika’ was performed with finesse by the more advanced group
of Taal. Highlights of the Recital included East-West blend of
‘Taal se taal mila’ and a colorful vibrant Holi dance by the
chief host Divya Srivastava along with versatile dancer Sonny
Molu and her senior troupe.
The couple dance elegantly executed on the old times ‘Ye raate
ye mausam’ rendered to perfection by Pankaj and Vandana
transported the audience to a dream world that they vociferously
demanded an encore and the finale ‘Jai Ho’ brought the house
down.
‘What makes Divya’s choreographies outstanding is her skillful
blend of old classical Kathak with new contemporary style of
Bollywood moves’ remarked a Taal parent.
Event decoration was meticulously done by Varsha Shah and her
personal touch was evident. Sponsors for the event were Dr.
Rajendra Sing and Daisy Singh, ‘Bukhara’ Indian Restaurant owner
Devendar Gautam. Photography was by Bikash Mitra.
