Atlanta's spectacular Fund-raiser Dance

for Narayanan Krishnan, a recipient of the prestigious
CNN Heroes of 2010 Award

Atlanta community rolled out a red carpet to felicitate
Narayanan Krishnan, a recipient of the prestigious CNN Heroes of
2010 Award. Atlanta's well known Third Eye Dancers. a nonprofit
organization and Bharthakala Natya Academy of Johns
Creek,Georgia,organized a felicitation cum fundraiser event
for Narayanan and to help his Akshaya Trust based in
Madurai,Tamil Nadu,India, to help feed mentally ill, infirm,
forsaken, and destitute and later on to also rehabilitate them.
Krishnan has recently been recognized by CNN as one of the top
ten CNN Heroes of 2010. The event was held at the Forsyth
Conference Center in Cumming, GA, on December 3.Greater Atlanta
Tamil Sangam,Telugu Association of Metro Atlanta,Naya India and
Rotary Club-Emory Druid Chapter IACA and CNN also joined hands
in the felicitations.
Akshaya Trust, currently in its ninth year of operation has made
substantial progress in construction of the Akshaya home to
shelter mentally ill women vulnerable to sexual abuse. Thanks to
Krishnan and well deserved CNN recognition, his organization has
gained global recognition.
The audience were treated to a feast of entertaining and
enlightening dances by well accomplished students of
Bharathakala Natya Academy. The riveting dances ,in colorful
costumes, were imaginatively and innovatively choreographed by
Subathra Sudarshan,the artistic Director of Bharathakala Natya
Academy. The program, began with "Shuklam Baradharam" an
invocatory prayer to Lord Ganesha . This was followed with a
prayer to Lord Vishnu. The next item "Kathana Kuthuhualam"
showed Lord Krishna playing a flute to his beloved Radhika and
other gopikas. Another mesmerizing dance, Ganesha Pancharatnam"
set to the composition by Shankaracharya showed elephant-headed
Lord Ganesha conferring his blessings on all his ardent
devotees.

Mrs. Gayatri Indrakrishnan ,Treasurer of Third Eye Dancers
welcomed all and introduced Krishnan, and his father K.Narayanan
and Parthasarathy who have worked shoulder to shoulder with
Krishnan over the years, and who have accompanied him on this
trip. Apart from teaching classical and other forms of
dancing,,Bharathakala Natya Academy's dancers take part in
humanitarian projects in India as well as in the U.S.So far the
School , through events such as Dayaa Nidhi in 2007 and Prana in
2009 has donated $11,000 to Rising Star Outreach which helps
children afflicted with leprosy, and $10,000 for the Cystic
Fibrosis Foundation respectively . Since inception, Bharathakala
Dance Academy has helped raise more than $100,000 for various
social causes.
'Adharam Madhuram" dance to a Sanskrit hymn describing the
childhood pastimes and frolics of Krishna was enthralling. Next
dance to Rahman composed song from Tamil movie 'Indra Nila
Kaigiradhu/khila chandni' was also a hit with the audience. And
the last dance to ,'Krishna nee begane baaro'by musical band of
singers duo Hariharan and Lewis, showing the dancers pleading
Krishna, Allah, Jesus and all other divine powers to come back
and help kids deliver from misery and suffering, won the hearts
of the packed hall.

Krishnan was invited on stage to a rousing applause. Krishnan
lauded Third Eye Dancers, especially its artistic director
Subathra Sudarshan,who is a highly versatile and accomplished
Bharathanatyam dancer who has toured the world extensively and
won several Awards. He said that after hearing about his
selection by CNN as one of the top 24 contenders for 2010,Third
Eye Dancers and Bharathakala Natya Academy had organized a
fundraiser to help Akshaya Trust, on May 29,2010 at the New Dawn
Theatre.He said that the kids that performed for a cause moved
him immensely. He informed that the Akshaya's Helping in H.E.L.P
Trust is a non-profit Trust was formed in June 2003.Uptil now,
it has served over 1.5 million meals-every day three times a day
,365 days a year to 400 destitute and helpless people in
Madurai. "My immediate vision is to complete Akshaya Home and
rehabilitate at least 200 men and women to begin with and
provide them with care to the best extent possible. I appeal to
you all to donate generously to help me fulfill my dream "said
29 year old, focused, driven and determined Krishnan.(Applause)
. He invited his father and Parthasarthy on stage and thanked
them as well as his mother(in Madurai)for their unconditional
love and support in Akshaya Trust's humanitarian work. There was
even more applause when he cheerily announced that he would be
tying knot with Harini in January 2011 in Madurai and as he
extended to the audience, an open invitation to his wedding. He
concluded his remarks by thanking his Atlanta host and the
President of Third Eye Dancers ,Sudarsan Srinivasan for
organizing the memorable event and also for his courteous and
warm hospitality.

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter had sent a Congratulatory
letter on the occasion, which read," Rosalynn joins me in
congratulating you for your recognition as one of the top ten
CNN Heroes of 2010. It is only fitting that your compassion and
the work to feed the needy are being recognized in this
way.Dr.Indrakrishnan who is on the advisory board of Third Eye
Dancers presented the Jimmy Carter's letter as a memento to
Krishnan.
Subathra Sudarsan, artistic Director of Third Eye Dancers
explained her mission of giving through dance. She said the goal
of her Organization was to increase awareness about social
issues affecting children, education, environmental abuse, and
those related to health.
Sudarsan Srinivasan, President of Third Eye Dancers thanked
everyone for their support. The performers of the evening
received Certificates from cheery Krishnan! The event concluded
with a delectable dinner from Royal Cuisine.
The event will indeed be etched in the memories of 650 Atlantans
who attended to felicitate Krishnan and to help his humanitarian
