The NorthPoint Group changes the anchor space strategy
at Point
Berkley II delivering to the market
a bowling and family fun park; STARZONE, at Point Berkeley.
Duluth, GA, November 21, 2008:
Although the city of Duluth, GA and Gwinnett County remain a
sprouting hotbed of growth and progress for the
American-International community, it is not immune to the
current economic strain of the nation’s retail industry and the
consumer curtailment of purchasing activities noted during 2008.
As a result the NorthPoint Group is
announcing a strategic change in direction at Point Berkley II,
whereas the anchor space previously designated for the H&Y
Marketplace and International Mall will be re-tooled and
launched to become a mega size
bowling and family fun park known as Starzone at Point Berkley.
With several new grocery stores emerging in the market sector
(AssiPlaza 100,000+SF, Mega Mart 100,000+SF and Dong Fang
International Supermarket 100,000SF) over the next six to twelve
months within close proximity of Point Berkeley, the CEO of NPG
decided not to introduce yet another grocery chain into the
area. After lengthy analysis the CEO of the NorthPoint Group,
decided a change of course was the most prudent course of
action.
The new strategy involved creating a partnership between the
NorthPoint Group and TJ entertainment group, a highly successful
business entertainment corporation with a proven track record
and years of success in the entertainment industry. The TJ
entertainment group will spearhead the implementation of a new
and exciting business model designed to attract a new type of
customer to the retail center. In turn, the NPG will secure
funding for the refitting of the space; coordinate the
architectural redesign and interior build out. The NPG
anticipates this will take approximately six months to complete
and the facility will be open for business during the 2nd
Quarter of 2009. Once completed, the 90,000SF space will include
the following business and entertainment components:
• Virtual Arcade
• Virtual Golf
• Game Zone
• Sports Bar
• A thirty-two lane Family Bowling center
• Eighteen holes of indoor Miniature Golf
• Merry-go round Carrousel
• Bumper Cars
• Birthday party rooms and family event rooms
• Interactive Video Games
• International Food Court
The uniqueness of the business model will create a balanced
family entertainment center distinctive from all others in the
Northeastern corridor of the greater Atlanta area and Gwinnett
County. “We chose TJ entertainment group over other American
entertainment companies because their business model was
superior to other competitive entertainment groups and the have
a proven track record as business leaders”, said Ron Onorato,
CEO of the NorthPoint Group. The TJ entertainment group will
center its headquarters in Duluth GA and focus its growth in the
southeast business region.
While the NorthPoint Group has felt the impact of the market,
this change in strategic direction will bring vigor and an
exciting look to Point Berkeley International Village. With the
adjunct of an indoor international mall
made up of small merchant kiosks, the increased traffic flow
will provide benefits to the current owners and tenants as well
as those to come. As the economy reconstitutes itself, Point
Berkeley will offer a wide variety of
restaurants and entertainment to the community at large. There
are many grocery anchored shopping centers with a high vacancy
rate. The uniqueness of a family entertainment park anchoring a
retail center is a new frontier and will earmark Point Berkeley
as a true family destination for all ages and likes.
