
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA CELEBRATED
WITH ENTHUSIASM AND
SPLENDOR

Atlanta, GA: On a sunny Sunday morning, June 21, hundreds of
people all over Atlanta enthusiastically gathered at Heritage
Park in Sandy Springs to celebrate the United Nations’ first
ever international Day of Yoga. Yoga is a scientific and
holistic approach to mental and physical wellbeing. Human
wellbeing is within us and within our reach.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the innovator of this
mega event that was set the record of yoga demonstrated
worldwide.
More than 800 yoga enthusiasts attended International Day Yoga
celebration that was held at Sandy Springs Heritage Park. The
event was hosted by Consulate General India in Atlanta in
association with more than 40 community organizations, Yoga
studios and Yoga enthusiasts.

Sandy Springs Mayor Mr. Rusty Paul lit the traditional lamp and
declared open the International day of yoga celebration in
Atlanta. He told the gathering that he was excited to see the
amazing sight filled with all beautiful faces in the Sunday
morning. He conveyed his best wishes and assured his support.
Other dignitaries on stage were then joined Consulate General of
India in Atlanta Mr. Nagesh Singh, Swami Vijnanananda of VHP
America, Yogi Amrut Desai, Dr. Nanda of HSS and Subash Razdan of
Gandhi Foundation.

Nagesh Singh, Consulate General India in Atlanta, welcoming the
gathering thanked Mr. Rusty Paul, Mayor, City of Sandy Springs
for his support which enabled the Consulate to host the first
ever historic International day of yoga celebration. Mr. Singh
said that the UN resolution declaring June 21 as international
day of yoga is a testimony that the yoga is a global heritage
rather than belong to particular race, nationality or creed. He
said that the celebration would encourage more people to
practice yoga.
Art of living, Isha yoga, Gayatri pariwar, Vedic temple and
others presented guided yoga sessions. Arrangements were
impressive. The weather was salubrious and the venue was
spectacular. Sudhir Agarwal and Ajay Houde coordinators of the
celebration said it is a beginning and it will go bigger and
grander in coming years.
