ATLANTA INDIAN COMMUNITY CELEBRATE

72ND INDEPENDENCE DAY WITH GREAT VIGOR AND JOY

Atlanta, GA: Indian Consulate in Atlanta celebrated India’s 72nd Independence Day with great vigor and joy on Wednesday, August 15 at the Indian Consulate premises. In charge Consul General of India in Atlanta, L.T. Ngaihte (CGI of Atlanta Nagesh Singh was already transferred and new Consul General is yet to join) unfurled the tri-color in the morning and followed by singing of the national anthem.

While addressing the gathering,  CGI in charge highlighted the points from the speech delivered by the president of India on the eve of 72nd Independence Day.

He also read out the president’s speech in the presence of numerous friends and members of the Indian American community. In the evening, marking the India @ 70 celebrations, the Indian consulate in Atlanta hosted a series of cultural items and rendition of patriotic songs at the consulate representing different Indian states and regions.


Telugu Association of Metro Atlanta (TAMA) celebrated this day with unfurling the tricolor flag and the rendition of national anthem and patriotic songs. Indian friends of Atlanta (IFA) organized Freedom Mela 2018 as India celebrates its 72nd Independence Day across the world.


Gwinnett county board of commissioners issued a proclamation, August 15, 2018 as India Day in Gwinnett county. The proclamation state, “Today we recognize the success of Gwinnett’s Indian community and celebrate India’s contributions to the country and the world.
The proclamation further stated that observance of August 15 has risen to global prominence, especially in areas with large populations of Indian residents including here in Gwinnett county.
