India etched its name in cricketing history once again by clinching the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 with a commanding 96 run victory over New Zealand in the finals at the packed Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 8. The Men in Blue produced a breathtaking batting display, posting a record-breaking 255/5, the highest score ever in a T20 World Cup final.
This emphatic win made India the first team to defend a T20 World Cup title, the first to win the championship on home soil, and the first nation to lift the trophy three times—a remarkable achievement that has elevated India’s stature in world cricket.
The 2026 edition of the tournament, co hosted by India and Sri Lanka, ran from February 7 to March 8. Twenty teams participated, divided into four groups of five. Matches were played across major venues in Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Chennai, and several Sri Lankan stadiums. The global lineup included India, Sri Lanka, Scotland, Afghanistan, Australia, England, South Africa, the United States, West Indies, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, Canada, Netherlands, Italy, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Nepal, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates.

The Indian team, led by Suryakumar Yadav with Axar Patel as vice captain, featured a balanced mix of explosive batting, versatile all rounders, and a lethal bowling attack.
