Gujarati Senior citizens celebrate Valentine Day with Fanfare

Over 100 members of senior citizens’ group of Gujarati Samaj of Greater Atlanta celebrated Valentine Day on February 27 at Gujarati Samaj Hall with lots of fanfare and sumptuous dinner.

Seniors were entertained by old movie songs by Rajen Raval, Anand Mehta, Chandrika Narayan and Sunny Thakkar of Navrang Group. Sound was managed by Paresh & Koumul Patel.

This senior citizen group is unique in a way, because its motto is: Of the seniors, for the seniors & by the seniors. While organizers of other organizations depend on outside sponsors for their expenses and they meet at banquet halls, Gujarati Samaj’s seniors are self-sufficient. Volunteers not only help make each event successful by doing chores, but they also cook nutritious meals in house that saves a lot of money. In this meet 21 members pledged donations and raised over $2100 cash in addition to dinner sponsorship for three events.

This evening’s dinner was sponsored by Mr. Harin & Bhadra Bhatt. (7-8 items) and free Valentine photo shoot by Girish Modi.

Thanks to the organizational skills and continuous support of Ashwin shah, Ketan Shah, Rekha Mehta, Varsha Shah and Divya Parikh, that seniors have empowered themselves in enjoying their senior years.
