Heralding acquisition of ‘Tarang School of Music’
TAAL’s 2nd Annual Dance Recital - An Overwhelming Success By Dr. Prabha Tyagi Photos by Bikash Mitra. Taal School of Dance presented its 2nd Annual Dance Recital on May 22nd at North Gwinnett High School. The show was a runaway success with a host of family members, supporters, well wishers and fans thronging the auditorium. The enthusiasm of the spectators was easily discernible by the intermittent thunderous applause and the prolonged standing ovation when the curtains were finally dropped. The program commenced with the solemn invocation of Lord Krishna and Guru Vandana rendered by a team of senior Taal students. Director of the School and Choreographer of the event Divya Srivastava had selected some intricate Kathak pieces providing opportunities to the students to optimally demonstrate their artistic skills. The prodigious talent of the students who had earned their 1st and 2nd year certificates poised to reach higher levels – was amply in evidence.  The fact that ‘Kathak bols’ was recorded by Divya and Pankaj in their own studio - deserves special mention. Each classical piece was followed by dances immaculately choreographed on classic Kathak moves. A well placed Thumari executed gracefully by Divya herself was the perfect segue to the mellifluous vocal performances by Pankaj Bhargava and Vandana Upadhyaya. Their duet, ‘Tu Jo Mere Sur Mein’ left the audience mesmerized in their seat. But the versatile Pankaj Bhargav, popularly known as Kishore Kumar of Atlanta broke the spell and soon had Taal dancers as well as the audience swaying to the song, ‘Tere Naina Tere Naina’. With the audience now ready for some rocking, the program entered the much awaited Bollywood segment. The Bollywood numbers showcased the students in radiant costumes deftly shaking their pom poms to ‘zubi dubi’ and performing other moves to latest hits like ‘aainvayyi aainvayyi’ and ‘gal meethi meethi’. A marathi folk fusion ‘Aika Dajiba’ in multi- colored traditional ‘Lavni’ sarees by the advanced group along with Divya and Rahim Hussain had the audience screaming for an encore. A couples’ dance to the song ‘Rut Aa Gayi Re’ left most in the audience imagining themselves dancing on the stage. The stage had come alive with the tasteful decoration done by Varsha Shah.  The Emcees of the evening were Navin Tyagi, an active theater artist and founder member of ‘Sargam’ group of music and his wife Dr. Prabha Tyagi, a physician and music and dance patron. They kept the audience fully engaged and entertained with their unique interactive style of narration. Trophies were distributed to all the students towards the end of program. Ms. Divya also awarded medals to the Students of the Year 2010-2011, who scored first positions in the Kathak examinations.  Some noteworthy comments of the spectators were, “Recital was very well choreographed and well organized”, “an excellent selection of songs and beautiful choreographies and amazing costumes”, “Divya’s energy is contagious, inspiring and motivating”. Taal School of Dance now enters into its third Academic Year in a momentous way by acquiring Tarang School of Music. Taal is proud to further widen the scope of its offerings and will now onwards be known as ‘Taal School of Dance and Music’. The jubilant owners Divya Srivastava and Pankaj Bhargava declared “We are very pleased and blessed to achieve this  milestone and thrilled to announce the second location of Taal
at Peachtree Industrial Blvd. Suwanee. We are much excited to
inherit the state of the art Music Studio and much honored to
have a team of very experienced and talented Music teachers
offering classes in Piano, Keyboard, Guitar, Drums, Hindustani &
Carnatic Vocal and light music along with karaoke”. Talented and dedicated, the entrepreneurial couple Divya and Pankaj is committed to the continued growth of the school to increasingly provide students regardless of their age and background, an opportunity to understand the richness of Indian culture and learn Indian classical as well as contemporary styles of music and dance.
